At the beginning of October, Hayden had spirit week for school which consisted of 50's day and Crazy hair day. He is not one to draw attention to himself so I was so very surprised he participated. on crazy hair day, he was very specific how he wanted his hair. Once we had it perfect, he said I hope people don't stare at me. I had to explain to him that people probably would because his hair is so cool. I could tell he wasn't satisfied with my answer, but he went with it. As the bus pulled up, you can imagine all the kids hanging their heads out the window, pointing their fingers and saying 'look at Hayden's hair.' Oh my, the look on his face as he looked back at me before stepping on the bus is one I will remember forever. It was the 'OMG, what have I gotten myself into' face. We will see if he will want to participate again next year. He came happy and said everyone loved his hair, so I am thinking he wasn't scarred too bad.
Spirit Week is also the big fundraiser for the year and you raise money by how many laps you run or walk at the Walk-a-thon. Hayden had it set in his mind he was going to run ten laps and there is no question about it that he was going to make it happen. I had no clue how big the track was and how many would even be possible. Well, can you believe it, he ran 10 laps to be exact. Only him and a couple other kindergartners ran 10 laps. Come to find out, it was two miles. He truly ran his little heart out. As he jumped off the bus that afternoon, he proudly displayed his medal he won for running the most laps. Not only did he win a medal, but he also won the drawing at school and received a party package at Pump it Up...wahoo!!
