Weekend in Atlanta

For Father's Day, I thought it would be fun to surprise David with a little trip.  I called Uncle John and he helped us land some Atlanta Braves tickets.  So last weekend we headed down south and spend some time with John and Kathy.  It was a great weekend.  The big boys played golf, while Kathy and I took Hayden to Monkey Joe's.  Saturday night we all headed downtown for Hayden's first Atlanta Braves and MLB game, I guess it was mine too.  I am not so sure if Hayden really enjoyed watching the game, but as long as we kept him fed with corn dogs, cotton candy and Dippin Dots, he was happy.  The weather was absolutely perfect and we had wonderful seats, it could not have been a more perfect night for baseball.  We really had a great time on our weekend trip and enjoyed spending time with John and Kathy.

One moment that really stuck out on this trip was as we were walking to the stadium.  There was a man  who was obviously mentally challenged, was mumbling and shaking a cup for money.  Hayden caught on really quickly as to what this man needed and started digging in his pocket as earlier he had come across a dime and a penny.  He asked if he could give his money to the man.  As we were in a hurry, I told Hayden we would give it to him on the way back as I was sure he would still be there.  He asked at least three times during the game if I was positive he would still be there after the game and I truthfully did not know.  After the game, as we were walking back to the car, Hayden was ahead of me with David and he spotted the man and stopped in his tracks, put his hand in his pocket and pulled out his dime and penny.  Well, now there is a lady in a wheelchair with no legs beside the man shaking her cup as well and Hayden is worried about her and does not know what to do.  I tell him to go ask David for a dollar for each of them.  As he stuck a dollar in each of their cups, I was in awe at this little boy who waited three hours to put some money into a cup to help a stranger in need.  The woman in a wheelchair thanked him twice and said "Its amazing it takes a child to help someone in need and all the adults just keep walking by".  I have not stopped thinking about that since Saturday night nor has Hayden.  The past few nights as we do prayers he asks about them, he told me he was worried he did not give them enough money to go to the doctor, he asked how the man who couldn't talk could go places since he cant tell them were he needs to go, he asks were they sleep at night and were is there mommy, and he ask why God made poor people.  I wish I could answer all his questions and give the right answers, but sometimes I just don't know the right answers.  However, if I know one thing, it is that that Hayden is something special and has the biggest heart of anyone I know.  This boy is going to do great things!!
